29 JUNE 2006 | MERCHANDISE | BBC annual review goes in-house

As report here earlier this year, the perennial DOCTOR WHO ANNUAL (now re-titled, DOCTOR WHO - THE OFFICIAL ANNUAL 2007) has moved from Panini Comics to BBC CHILDRENS BOOKS.

The overpriced book, that would not challenge a goldfish's attention span let alone an eight year old more used to the Harry Potter books, is released in August.

RRP £6.99. Or wait until January 2007 and pick it up in the New Year's bargain-bin.

20 JUNE 2006 | CLASSIC SERIES | DVD releases

The incomplete Patrick Troughton Cybermen story, THE INVASION is to be released "complete" on DVD for the first time in November.

Complete? Animation house, Cosgrove Hall, will re-animate episodes 1 and 4 (of eight) to match the existing soundtrack. Cosgrove Hall produced the BBC Webcast story, SCREAM OF THE SHALKA.

If financially successful this could mark the start of similar projects to bring CLASSIC DOCTOR WHO to a NEW SERIES audience.

Additionally, BBC WORLDWIDE has confirmed that a single-disc release for October will be Tom Baker's THE SONTARAN EXPERIMENT (to introduce NEW SERIES fans to the clone warriors), and in January 2007 there will be a three-story boxset titled, RETURN OF THE MASTER (to introduce NEW SERIES fans to the renegade, evil Time Lord). These stories will include THE KEEPER OF TRAKEN, LOGOPOLIS and CASTROVALVA.

From 2007, there will be 6 DVD releases (with full EXTRAS) and 4 other (limited EXTRAS) DVD release throughout the twelve months.

15 JUNE 2006 | SERIES 2 | PIPER leaves

Billie Piper leaves DOCTOR WHO.

EXTERNAL LINK Read the official BBC PRESS OFFICE release.

The final scenes have been filmed (Remember the embrace between the Doctor and Rose in the TARDIS at the end of THE SATAN PIT? That was their final scene together...) and she's gone.

Whether Rose Tyler survives DOOMSDAY is uncertain but Russell T Davies confirms that the series will be explosive.

A stunning performance that silenced her critics, with Eccleston, Piper re-launched the series in 2005 to viewer acclaim.

She must be proud.

Who's next?

If all rumours are correct, finally BBC WALES will/have cast an ethnic-origin actress as a permanent companion. This is something that eyeofhorus.org.uk proposed in 2004 - thankfully the "advice" was not taken, and we were treated to the wonderful Piper.

7 JUNE 2006 | PERSONALITY | GLAMOUR-PUSS PIPER

Last night, GLAMOUR magazine's annual (first year!) awards were handed out and Billie Piper was awarded BEST TV ACTRESS for her work on DOCTOR WHO.

Strangely, she was wearing a frock last seen hanging out to dry by pegs in Florizel Street from THE IDIOT'S LANTERN.
