JUNE 2005 | NON-FICTION |
THE SHOOTING SCRIPTS book |
|
An
essential guide, from an insider's point of view (Head Writer, Russell T Davies),
of the NEW SERIES. DOCTOR WHO - THE
SHOOTING SCRIPTS is published on 13 October
2005 (RRP £18.99 512 pages - Hardback).
On the 26th of March 2005, Doctor Who returned
to our screens after an absence of 16 years, with a new Doctor, a new assistant
and thirteen thrilling new adventures.
This book collects together the entire
shooting scripts for the first series. Seven of the scripts are by Russell T
Davies, with the remainder by Stephen Moffat, Robert Shearman, Paul Cornell and
Mark Gatiss. Each story contains the essential ingredients
of time travel, adventure, and the mixing of the ordinary with the fantastical
that have always characterized the series, while at the same time being thoroughly
in tune with contemporary culture and society.
This is a DOCTOR
WHO for an age
defined by irony, technology and celebrity, and the shadow cast by 9/11. It is
also a more cinematic series, with fast cutting and special effects that will
satisfy viewers brought up on contemporary film and television sci-fi.
THE SHOOTING
SCRIPTS give a unique insight into
how the series was visualized and acted. Alongside the exciting action sequences
and dialogue are hints about the characters emotions, and evocations of the settings
in which their adventures take place. Pacy, atmospheric and thoroughly absorbing,
these scripts practically read like novels. Each of the scripts will be illustrated
with screen grabs, ensuring the book appeals to broad audience.
Introductions
by the writers will explain the inspirations for the new series and the fascinating
process of creating a DOCTOR WHO script. |

SERIES | DWM 355 |
|
In issue DWM
355 of the magazine Bryan Hitch
the concept designer, tells us how the new-look TARDIS was created.
"What we eventually eureka!-ed was that the TARDIS was the Doctor's VW camper
van - old and a bit hippy-ish, somewhere to sleep," he says.
Also this month, the Ninth Doctor and Rose make their DWM comic strip début
this month, in the first part of a brand-new full-colour adventure, THE
LOVE INVASION written by Gareth Roberts, with artwork by Mike Collins.
Actor Simon Callow talks about his guest role as Charles Dickens in THE
UNQUIET DEAD; DWM goes behind-the-scenes on Episode 1, ROSE,
to find out what it takes to bring an episode of Doctor Who to the screen; and
there are some tantalising previews of the next four episodes coming soon on
Saturday nights - THE END OF THE WORLD, THE
UNQUIET DEAD, ALIENS OF LONDON and
WORLD WAT THREE!
There's also an in-depth review of the first episode; more from executive
producer Russell T Davies in his Production Notes column; the latest casting
news, and a special report from the Doctor Who press launch in Cardiff.
DWM 355 is on the news-stands from Thursday 31
