BACKGROUND | PRODUCT ENTERPRISE

In 1987, a UK-based company (a forerunner to CHARACTER OPTIONS), PRODUCT ENTERPRISE gained a licence (prior to the 2005 re-launch of DOCTOR WHO) to create a range of detailed toys ranging from Dalek (numerous high quality versions) to Cybermen.

It is unsure why PRODUCT ENTERPRISE "failed" but it can be assumed that due to the success of the NEW SERIES' licence being awarded to CHARACTER OPTIONS may have been a contributory factor.

However, their legacy is one of quality (following the dismal range of toys/action figures from DAPOL) and a set of highly collectable "limited editions" (in particular the 6" talking Dalek range) that are worth four or five times the original price.

It is believed that the company closed in 2007 or 2008.

DELETED | MERCHANDISE | 12" ACTION FIGURES

With extortionate prices on eBay, PRODUCT ENTERPRISE is re-launching the EARTHSHOCK-styled talking Cyberman (complete with blaster and Cybermat) for £19.99 from June 2006.

Two new products include a re-working of the Fourth Doctor and a brand new REVENGE OF THE CYBERMEN-styled Cyberman.

Both will be talking and 12" tall. The sculpting of Tom Baker's 1975 head/face is fare more detailed and accurate. The yellow teeth that featured as part of the 7" version have been 'touched-up'.

Fourth Doctor - Released: 2004 RRP: £29.99

  • 4 CLASSIC PHRASES FEATURING THE ORIGINAL ACTOR'S VOICE
  • STUNNING LIKENESS, HIGHLY DETAILED
  • AUTHENTIC CHARACTER ACCESSORIES
  • DETAILED K-9 WITH PULL-BACK ACTION

Twenty-five years after the classic toy from Denys Fisher, Product Enterprise release their version of the Fourth Doctor replete with the knitted scarf, floppy hat and sonic screwdriver.

A perfect reproduction of Tom Baker (with a voice track too) would be enough but it is accompanied by a bulging bag of Jelly Babies and a pull-back K9.

DELETED | MERCHANDISE | DAVROS INFRA-RED CONTROLLED

Released: 20 October 2005 RRP: £49.99

This could be another winner for Product Enterprise but initial images of the item are not impressive. But it will be 'tweaked' and you can expect only the very best.

The remote control talking Davros has been on the drawing board for several years and will be finally released in October 2005 via the The Stamp Centre's sci-fi website. At 12" (30cm) tall it compliments the existing range of talking remote control Daleks. Poorly realised and badly painted.

The final pack shots show a 'rushed' sculptured of the Terry Nation creation.

DELETED | MERCHANDISE | DALEKS 12" REMOTE CONTROLLED

Released: 2004 RRP: £49.99

  • Total radio control for amazing Dalek action
  • Powered rotating head with flashing lights
  • Seven authentic commands
  • Available in three classic colours
  • 12" (30 cm) tall
  • Batteries included

A must for all DOCTOR WHO fans, although a bit too pricey for the 'curious' fan. The only problem is that the voice tracks are 'slaved' to the motion of the Dalek. It would have been more effective to have them independent of each other.

Nice retro design for the handset.

DELETED | MERCHANDISE | DALEK - TALKING 6" VERSIONS

Released: 2003 RRP: £24.99

The first item from Product Enterprise, and with the release of them DOCTOR WHO fans were hooked.

In the same vein of the Palitoy talking Dalek from the 1970s, this version is infinitely better quality. 6" (15cm) tall with seven phrases and interactive lights.

There were three versions initially released, followed by other variations and two limited editions:

  • Gold
  • Black, Silver and Red
  • Limited edition "White + Gold" Imperial Dalek from REMEMBRANCE OF THE DALEKS
  • Light Gray + Black
  • Limited edition "Silver + Black dome" from THE EVIL OF THE DALEKS

EXTRA

DELETED | MERCHANDISE | CYBERMEN - TALKING 8.5"

Released: 2003 RRP: £19.99

These toys (Cyberman and CyberLeader) are very impressive on first sight, even though the choice of 'chrome' finish is strange (the figure is based upon designs seen in EARTHSHOCK and SILVER NEMESIS).

The design is highly detailed (even more than the costumes used in the series) and justifies the £19.99 price. However, the articulation is stiff and the voice track (due to a very small speaker) is audibly ineffective. The phrases include:

  • EXCELLENT
  • DESTROY EARTH
  • ERADICATE THE TIME LORD
  • EMOTION IS A WEAKNESS

At 8.5" (22cm) it is scaled to the Tom Baker figure (and the Dalek figures) and comes with a detailed gun and a cybermat.

The range was supplemented with a "stealth" Cybermen (ATTACK OF THE CYBERMEN) paited matt & gloss black.
