With thanks to BBC WORLDWIDE.

The Region 1 cover for the February 2012 CLASSIC SERIES release, DOCTOR WHO - THE SENSORITES has been published.

The Doctor, Ian, Barbara and Susan land on a spaceship orbiting a distant and mysterious world, where a human crew lies frozen somewhere between life and death.

The TARDIS arrives on board a spaceship in orbit around a planet called the Sense-Sphere.

The alien Sensorites have trapped the ship’s human crew, Captain Maitland, Carol and John, in a state of semi-permanent paralysis. When the Doctor investigates, the aliens steal the lock mechanism from the TARDIS, thus trapping him and his companions.

The Sensorites allow all but Maitland and Barbara down to the planet, where Ian falls ill from a sickness that has been wiping out the Sensorites. The Doctor finds a cure. His investigations into the cause of the sickness are hampered by the subversive activities of the City Administrator, but eventually he uncovers three deranged human survivors from a past expedition who have been adding deadly nightshade to the water supply.

21 September 2011 | MERCHANDISE | THE SARAH JANE ADVENTURES

With thanks to BBC PICTURES.

The BBC has revealed details for the fourth boxset release for the underrated children's series, THE SARAH JANE ADVENTURES. The series has cemented Elisabeth Sldane as, once again, the most popular time-space travelling non-Time Lord ever and is published ahead of the posthumous fifth series to be broadcast on CBBC and BBC ONE.

The series is complimented with one of Sladen's fan-favourite story, PYRAMIDS OF MARS with Tom Baker in which an entombed Sutekh tries to break free from the eye of horus (well, it's worth a mention...) bonds.

The boxset includes the classic reunion of not only Sarah Jane and the Doctor (Matt Smith) but with Jo (Grant) Jones (Katy Manning in a magically giddy-filled two-parter, DEATH OF THE DOCTOR.

Investigative journalist Sarah Jane Smith (Elisabeth Sladen), one-time companion to that strange wanderer in time and space known as the Doctor, is back for more alien-busting adventures. True to the thrill-a-minute mix of action, drama and humour that made this series a hit, season four of THE SARAH JANE ADVENTURES arrives on DVD and Blu ray October 31st courtesy of BBC DVD priced at £20.42 and £25.52.

Created by DOCTOR WHO supremo, Russell T Davies,THE SARAH JANE ADVENTURES follows the exploits of The Doctor’s former companion along with her young supersleuth gang – school friends Luke, Clyde and Rani. Together they’ve prevented a warrior Sontaran from blowing up the planet, rescued missing children from the clutches of a sinister clown, battled the evil reptilian Androvax who can hide inside humans and saved the world from a deadly plant.

The fourth series provides ever more thrills and spills. In two special episodes written by Russell T Davies, Sarah Jane is reunited with another of The Doctor’s former companions, Jo Grant. They’re joined by The Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith) in an alien-busting adventure featuring brand-new vulture aliens, the mysterious Shansheeth and a trip to an alien planet. The series also features fun with enemies old and new, including the terrors of the Nightmare Man and a dangerous journey back into history.

Extras for this release include a Classic DOCTOR WHO story, PYRAMIDS OF MARS as a tribute to Elisabeth Sladen who sadly passed away this year. Sarah Jane Smith and the Doctor arrive at an old priory in the year 1911 where the owner, Marcus Scarman, has been excavating ancient tombs and soon becomes possessed by the spirit of Sutekh, bringer of 'the gift of death to all mankind'. Will Sutekh the all-powerful be freed from his bonds and destroy the world, or will the Doctor manage to bring about his destruction?

Released on 31 October 2011 - duration 360 minutes.

With Matt Smith as the eleventh Doctor, Karen Gillan as Amy Pond, Arthur Darvill as Rory and Alex Kingston as River Song, this exciting new series also guest stars a wealth of British acting talent including Hugh Bonneville (Twenty Twelve), Suranne Jones (Five Days) and Lily Cole (The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus).

Together they find themselves in Sixties America, battling the invasion the world forgot, then journey on the high seas of 1696 aboard a pirate ship, to solve the mystery of the Siren. In a bubble universe at the very edge of reality, the Doctor meets an old friend with a new face, and in a monastery on a remote island in the near future, an industrial accident takes on a terrible human shape. And waiting for them, at the end of all this, is the battle of Demon's Run, and the Doctor's darkest hour. Can even the truth about River Song save the Time Lord's soul?

Only two things are certain. Silence will fall. And a good man is going to die...

5 June 2011 | MERCHANDISE | THE REIGN OF TERROR DVD

BBC DVD has confirmed that William Hartnell's 1964 six-parter will be reconstructed as part of their commitment to bringing the CLASSIC SERIES to a new generation of DOCTOR WHO fans.

In the BBC ARCHIVE, DOCTOR WHO - THE REIGN OF TERROR survives with only four episodes in tact and the decision has been made to "animate" the missing material (episode four and five). The animation project is being undertaken by Thetamation and Big Finish.

There are two additional stories - THE TENTH PLANET and THE ICE WARRIORS that are in a similar predicament, though no announcement has been made on whether animation will be utilised to aid DVD release.

7 March 2011 | MERCHANDISE | MANNAQUIN MANIA DVD

BBC DVD has updated the details of 9 May 2011 boxset, DOCTOR WHO - MANNEQUIN MANIA featuring a re-release of SPEARHEAD FROM SPACE (a "revisitation" by any other name) and TERROR OF THE AUTONS.

Here's the Press Release:

Featuring two classic stories, Spearhead From Space Special Edition and Terror of the Autons, starring fan favourite Jon Pertwee as the third Doctor, Doctor Who: Mannequin Mania will be available on DVD from 9th May 2011 priced at £35.73. All episodes are newly remastered, utilising advances in technology and technique, and are supported by an expanded collection of bonus features.

In the first of our stories, Spearhead From Space, the Doctor is exiled to Earth in the late 20th Century by his own people - the Time Lords. The newly regenerated Doctor finds himself in Oxley Woods alongside a shower of mysterious meteorites.

Investigating these unusual occurrences is the newly-formed United Nations Intelligence Taskforce led by Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart. UNIT are soon called into action when people and meteorites start going missing but puzzling of all is the attempted kidnapping of a strange hospital patient - a man with two hearts, who insists that he knows the Brigadier... The new Doctor soon joins forces with his old friends, UNIT and the recently recruited Dr Liz Shaw, but time is running out.

In the second story of this un-missable Boxset, Terror of the Autons, Earth is in terrible danger. The Master has arrived with an evil scheme to destroy humanity and silence the Doctor forever by awakening the awesome power of the Nestene - a ruthlessly aggressive alien life form. With their control over all types of plastic, they form into faceless automatons, a willing army of destruction easily controlled by the evil Time Lord himself.

Aided by the Brigadier and his enthusiastic new assistant, Jo Grant, only the Doctor can combat their evil power, but this is easier said than done when every plastic doll, phone flex, or chair can be turned against him. First, however, he must defeat the Master.

Sarah Jane is invited by Mike Yates to visit him at a Buddhist meditation center where he has been staying. A group of people there, led by a man named Lupton, are misusing the meditation rituals in order to make contact with powerful alien forces, which manifest themselves as a giant spider. 7 January 2011 | MERCHANDISE | A CHRISTMAS CAROL DVD press preview

With thanks to BBC DVD.

With 12.11 million UK viewers gorging themselves on Matt Smith's DOCTOR WHO - A CHRISTMAS CAROL fans may like to re-live the adventure courtesy of BBC DVD.

It is released on 24 January (both on DVD £13.27 and BLU-RAY £16.33) as a single-disc issue that includes the accompanying DOCTOR WHO CONFIDENTIAL and DOCTOR WHO AT THE PROMS 2010.

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE: It's the deepest part of winter, the exact midpoint, Christmas Eve - half way out of the dark. Amy and Rory are trapped on a stricken space liner that's plummeting through banks of thick icy fog to the surface of the planet below. Only one man has the power to save them; only one man is in possession of a machine that can clear the fog and let them land safely. That man is Kazran Sardick, a rich but lonely old miser who rules Sardicktown with a sky-mast of iron.

The Doctor's only chance of rescuing the ship's four thousand passengers is to save Kazran's soul and show him that life is worth living. For this he needs to go back, way back, to when Kazran was a boy with a life full of promise. But can the Doctor put a song in Kazran's heart and love in his life, in time for Christmas? Can he bring him out of the dark?

Starring alongside Matt Smith as the Doctor, Karen Gillan as Amy Pond, and Arthur Darvill as Rory Williams, A Christmas Carol also stars singing sensation Katherine Jenkins in her first acting role and British acting stalwart Michael Gambon.

7 January 2011 | MERCHANDISE | THE ARK DVD press preview

With thanks to BBC DVD.

BBC DVD will be publishing William Hartnell's four-parter, DOCTOR WHO - THE ARK on 14 February 2011 as a single-disc issue.

The preview disc (called a "testmold") has been received and will be reviewed shortly. The final sleeve is shown (left, bottom).

Materialising in what appears to be a jungle on Earth, the Doctor, Steven and Dodo soon realise that things are not what they seem: the sky is made of steel, and the jungle merely a colossal life chamber in a craft that has embarked on the most important expedition in the history of mankind.

It is ten million years in the future, and the Earth is soon to be engulfed by the Sun in a catastrophic explosion. A gigantic space ark has been launched, taking the last humans to a new life on the distant planet of Refusis, serving the Guardians of Earth are the Monoids, mute reptilian aliens.

But the Ark's mission of deliverance is threatened by the arrival of the time travellers; Dodo inadvertently passes her cold to the Guardians - to them, it is a long-forgotten virus against which they have no defence. It is not long before people start to die and the TARDIS crew are on trial for their own lives.
