In addition to those BBC AUDIO releases listed below, a new set of releases are scheduled for 2008.

Abridged (10 July 2008)

  • THE PIRATE LOOP read by Freema Agyeman

The Doctor's been everywhere and everywhen in the whole of the universe and seems to know all the answers. But ask him what happened to the Starship Brilliant and he hasn't the first idea. Did it fall into a sun or black hole? Was it shot down in the first moments of the galactic war? And what's this about a secret experimental drive? The Doctor is skittish. But if Martha is so keen to find out he'll land the TARDIS on the Brilliant, a few days before it vanishes. Then they can see for themselves...Written by Simon Guerrier.

The peace and quiet of a remote homestead in the 1880s American West is shattered by the arrival of two shadowy outriders searching for 'the healer'. When the farmer refuses to help them, they raze the house to the ground using guns that shoot bolts of energy instead of bullets...In the town of Redwater, the Doctor and Martha learn of a snake-oil salesman who's patent medicines actually cure his patients. But when the Doctor and Martha investigate the truth is stranger, and far more dangerous. Written by James Swallow.

The old village well is just a curiosity - something to attract tourists intrigued by stories of lost treasure, or visitors just making a wish. Unless something alien and terrifying could be lurking inside the well. Something utterly monstrous that causes nothing but death and destruction. But who knows the real truth about the well? Who wishes to unleash the hideous force it contains? What terrible consequences will follow the search for a legendary treasure hidden at the bottom? Written by Trevor Baxendale.

22 FEBRUARY 2008 | MERCHANDISE | BBC AUDIO exclusive

In a "news alert" from BBC AUDIO, it has been announced that David Tennant is reading the first SERIES 4 tie-in (featuring the character of Donna Noble), PEST CONTROL.

Released exclusively on CD and download only, PEST CONTROL is available on 8 May 2008.

BBC AUDIO has released a glimpse at the script:

" There was another squealing sound from high above. Donna wondered what it was. The Doctor already seemed to know, and dragged her protesting over the sodden ground and towards the truck. ' Take cover! ' he yelled. ' The bombardment has started! '

' Incoming! ' bellowed Harrison from the middle distance.

A dull crump sounded from beyond the truck, and a fountain of black earth spurted up into the air and scattered over them. There was a fizzing sound of energy.

The remaining soldiers leapt out of the transport vehicle, fresh weapons in their hands. Harrison had appeared by Donna's side. He was looking to her for orders, she realised. She wasn't in uniform, she wasn't able to command him, and all because of a simple misunderstanding.

Harrison's eyes glazed over. He toppled face forward and sprawled in the mud. Only then did Donna know what the fizzing sound was. Weapons were firing. Harrison had been shot dead in front of her.

The dun-coloured shapes of more soldiers scurried past, taking positions. It took Donna a moment to work out what they were doing: they were aiming their rifles upward.

She followed the direction of their weapons. She stared in disbelief.

Donna could make out thin legs on fat, swollen bodies dropping from the invisible sky. The air was alive with gunfire as the creatures fell through the fog and clattered to the ground.

' Oh my God ,' she breathed. ' Doctor, they're dropping ponies on us! '

' Not exactly ,' he said, pulling her behind the truck. Donna slithered in the mud, and landed on her bum. She could feel the water soak right through. The Doctor was still talking: ' Look again. Horses don't have parachutes .'

21 FEBRUARY 2008 | MERCHANDISE | BBC AUDIO - Tenth Doctor tie-in

BBC AUDIO has released details of three new DOCTOR WHO abridged audiobooks featuring the Tenth Doctor and Martha Jones.

WETWORLD read by Freema Agyeman.

When the TARDIS makes a disastrous landing in the swamps of the planet Sunday, the Doctor has no choice but to abandon Martha and try to find help. But the tranquillity of the swamp is deceptive, and even the TARDIS can't protect Martha forever. The human pioneers of Sunday have their own dangers to face: homeless and alone, they're starting to see that Sunday's wildlife isn't as harmless as it appears. Why are the otters behaving so strangely, and what is the creature in the swamps that is so interested in the humans, and the new arrivals?

The Doctor and Martha must fight to ensure that human intelligence doesn't become the greatest danger of all.

SICK BUILDING read by THE SATAN PITS's Will Thorp.

Will Thorp reads this suspenseful story about a sentient house, a ravenous beast and a family in danger. Tiermann's World: a planet covered in wintry woods and roamed by sabre-toothed tigers and other savage beasts. The Doctor is here to warn Professor Tiermann, his wife and their son that a terrible danger is on its way.

The Tiermanns live in luxury, in a fantastic, futuristic, fully-automated Dreamhome, under an impenetrable force shield. But that won't protect them from the Voracious Craw. A huge and hungry alien creature is heading remorselessly towards their home. When it arrives everything will be devoured. Can they get away in time? With the force shield cracking up, and the Dreamhouse itself deciding who should or should not leave, things are looking desperate.

FOREVER AUTUMN read by THE SATAN PITS's Will Thorp.

It is almost Halloween in the sleepy New England town of Blackwood Falls. Paper skeletons hand in windows and carved pumpkins leer from porches. The Doctor and Martha soon discover that this is no ordinary Halloween. What is the secret of the ancient tree and the book discovered tangled in its roots? What rises from the local churchyard at night, sealing up the lips of the only witness? Why are the harmless trappings of Halloween taking on a creepy new life of their own?

As nightmarish creatures prowl the streets, the Doctor and Martha must battle to prevent both the townspeople and themselves from suffering a grisly fate.

The action the aliens decide to take will have devastating consequences for Chloris, unless something is done to prevent it...

THE ROMANS (5 May 2008)

William Hartnell stars as the Doctor, alongside William Russell as Ian, Jacqueline Hill as Barbara and Maureen O'Brien as Vicki in this four part story set in Ancient Rome. Written by Dennis Spooner. Whilst Ian and Barbara are kidnapped by slave traders, the Doctor is mistaken for a famous lyre player and plays at Nero's court. 21 DECEMBER 2007 | BBC AUDIO | THE BRAIN OF MORBIUS

Releasing on 4 February 2008, following the enthralling reading of THE GIANT ROBOT, Tom Baker returns with another unabridged reading of DOCTOR WHO AND THE BRAIN OF MORBIUS (a story that begs for a DVD release in 2008 too).

3 hours and 55 minutes of Baker is essential listening for all DOCTOR WHO fans - new and old (and the very old) - of the 1976 CLASSIC SERIES story.

Why do so many spaceships crash land on Karn, a bleak, lonely and seemingly deserted planet? Are they doomed by the mysterious powers of the strange, black-robed Sisterhood, jealously guarding their secret of eternal life? Or does the mad Dr Solon, for some evil purpose of his own, need the bodies of the victims - and more especially, the body of Doctor Who...?

21 DECEMBER 2007 | BBC AUDIO | THE SPACE WAR

Geoffrey Beevers reads Malcolm Hulke's Jon Pertwee story, DOCTOR WHO AND THE SPACE WAR (the original 1973 TV story was titled THE FRONTIER IN SPACE).

The over four hour unabridged reading is released by BBC AUDIOBOOKS on 4 February 2008 and sees the Third Doctor & Jo Grant encounter the Draconians, the Master and ...

The year is 2540, and two powers loom large in the Galaxy - Earth and Draconia. After years of peace, their spaceships are now being mysteriously attacked and cargoes rifled. Each suspects the other, and full-scale war seems unavoidable. The Doctor, accused of being a Draconian spy, is thrown into prison. And only when the Master appears on the scene do things really begin to move...

Previously, Beevers read DOCTOR WHO AND THE DOOMSDAY WEAPON.
